Eargym
At Eargym, a startup founded by Andy Shanks (CTO) and Amanda Philpott (CEO), I led all aspects of game design, game development, and data analytics. I was responsible for creating games informed by scientific research and pilot studies. Beyond the games, I provided insights and guided product strategy iteration, improving the user experience across the app’s UI/UX, app flow, and retention models. I also managed analytics using Mixpanel and Python via Firebase, providing data-driven insights that enhanced product development.
Amanda and Andy, co-founders of eargym, testimonial:
"Jay has been instrumental in designing our games to be both enjoyable and measurably impactful. He's an excellent team player. We wholeheartedly recommend Jay as he takes this next step in his career."

Space Salvage
I worked as a contractor on Space Salvage, a VR adventure game for the Quest, where players skillfully navigate through intergalactic environments, dodging wreckage and combating enemies. My role involved creating VFX and shaders using Unity to enhance the immersive experience, helping bring the game’s dynamic environments and gameplay to life.

Personal Projects
For the past seven years, I’ve been driven by a passion for making games. I’m constantly tinkering, testing mechanics, and experimenting with game designs to see if they are genuinely "fun." While this has resulted in a lot of unfinished projects, I believe this process is invaluable in discovering what makes a game engaging—something people will want to play and keep playing. For me, it’s about pushing boundaries and finding that magic in gameplay.
